A tagline is a phrase or slogan that often comes after a company name or logo. It conveys the most important benefit of your product or service. A tagline should say something vital about why you are different and why the world should care.
First, decide what you want to communicate with your tagline. A meaningful promise that truly differentiates you from your competitors can truly strengthen your business. The tagline should be yours and yours alone.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- who are your customers?
- what unique benefits can you offer your customers?
- what do you want your customers to do?
- what differentiates you from your competitors?
Research your competitors' taglines, especially the large companies. You can learn from their success.
- Microsoft - "Where do you want to go today"
- Nike - "Just do it"
- Hersheys.com - "The sweetest site on the Web"
- Volkswagen - "Drivers Wanted"
You only have one sentence to describe your site to others. What is the uniqueness of your product or service that distinguishes your from others?
Your tagline should be a clear statement of what your company is offering to your customers. Remember that you are selling the benefits of your site, not the features! Don't waste space listing the features. Instead tell your visitors how your product or service can help solve your customer's problems.
If you have a memorable tagline, your customers are more likely to remember you when they're faced with a choice, and call you when they're ready to buy. Use your tagline everywhere: on your website, business cards, ads and email signature. Keep in mind that just as a great tagline can help your business by building positive brand awareness, a poor one will do the opposite.
